UNESCO Lombok Field Assessment and Field Visit in April 2019
Since January 2019, RedR Indonesia has been assisting UNESCO in their support to the recovery of traditional weaving communities in Desa Pringgasela Selatan, Lombok Timur and in Desa Bayan, Lombok Utara that were affected by series of earthquakes that hit Lombok in August 2018.
In April, we are back in Lombok to facilitate the field visit of Ms. Moe Chiba, Head of UNESCO’s Cultural Unit to meet and discuss with weaving communities and other relevant stake holders in Bayan and Pringgasela, NTB. On April 2nd, the meeting was held in Balai Desa Bayan (meeting hall), Lombok Utara and was attended by the government representatives from NTB Provincial Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA), BAPPEDA Lombok Utara, Department of Industry of Lombok Utara, cultural figures of Bayan, Head of Bayan sub district and heads of neighboring villages as well as weavers from Jajaq Bayan and Fetung Bayan.
The meeting in Bayan is set as a starting point and the four days field visit will end in Pringgasela, Lombok Timur. Series of meetings and discussions with local weaving communities, represented by kelompok Nine Penenun, and relevant stakeholders have also been scheduled to be held in Pringgasela on Thursday, 4 April 2019. These four days field-visit will be completed with several group discussions, IT assessment and on site trainings.
